2016 Parade Best Overall Band Winners – Miami Northwestern

The finals are set at the 55th Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Championship, with Monday’s winners securing a spot in the last round of the tournament.

Raleigh, North Carolina native and 3-seed Victor Lilov advanced to the finals for the Boys’ 12U division, defeating unseeded Paraguayan Alfonso Vallejo 7-6(6); 6-3.

Before the tournament, Lilov said, “I’m going to do my best and hopefully I can win. It’s the biggest tournament of the year and just a huge honor to be a part of it.”

He is set to face fellow American 9-seed Bruno Kuzuhara tomorrow at 9 a.m. for the championship.

In the Girls’ 12U division, the final will be a matchup between two of the top four seeds in Katrina Scott and Cori Gauff. The all-American final features two players who have been exceptional this week, and Gauff is coming off of a straight sets victory over 3-seed Vivian Ovrootsky.

Gauff said, “I want to win this tournament. Last year I made it to the semifinals, but I’ve learned to stay calm if I lose a point and when I’m nervous to aim for safer targets.”

The final is set for 9 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Complex.

Alexa Noel continued her strong play to win her semifinal matchup against 7-seed Emma Raducanu of Great Britain. Noel said yesterday that she was a bit surprised that she was not seeded for the tournament and she has noticeably played with a chip on her shoulder.

Noel’s opponent in the finals will be Chinese 3-seed Qinwen Zheng, who defeated 2-seed Holly Fischer today 6-4 6-4. Their matchup is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The only one versus two seed matchup in the finals will take place in the Boys’ 14U division between Buyun Chaokete of China and American Alex Lee. Chaokete defeated 5-seed Zane Kahn today 6-4 4-6 7-6(7).
